"I have been playing drums for over 40 years. I think I intuitively had a good sense of rhythm as a child because my dad use to put me on his shoes and dance with me.When I was old enough he taught me how to snap my fingers to songs and this was key to developing my basic sense of rhythm. At abut 10 I got a set of bongos which I quickly wore out. At 15 I started taking lessons from a drummer who lived up the street. A year later after wearing out my blue jeans and the hairs on the front of my thighs (from practicing on my legs), I bought my first drum set- a beautiful gold sparkle Pearl 5 piece with all Zildjian cymbals. I joined a rock band that year and got hooked on percussions for life. Although I did not pursue a full time career as a drummer because of my love for art and Graphic Designs, I have continued to play with many bands over the years. I have been fortunate to jam with people like Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs-Steve Morse Band), Dion Dimuci (Dion of Do-Op fame-[Runaround Sue, Donna, etc]) and other extremely talented musicians. I have played in several local bands "Last Daze" and "The Lleonard Blush Blues Band" and have played everything from Rock, Blues, Church worship and contemporary Christian music. I even did some studio work for a local rock-reggae artist. Now I want to help others discover the joy of playing percussions live and "for fun". I have had some great teachers over the years and now I want to take 4 decades of experience and teach others what I've learned.Hopefully these tips and resources will help the drum enthusiast learn to develop his technical skills as well as internal rhythm. I have had students ages age of 5 to 48 including 2 professional Drummers. This shows me that there is always something to learn and that's what this site is about; to help the drummer have everything at hand to learn his craft. So puruse the site so you can "Train your Brain" and then Drum On! - JW
